Berlin GEWOBAG- EFL Seminar on social integration succesful

The Berlin municipal Housing company GEWOBAG  (> 70.000 managed apartments) hosted a two day European seminar for the housing industry. GEWOBAG CEO Mr Hendrik Jellema showed the 20 experts from EFL and the Eurhonet group the efforts which GEWOBAG undertakes to improve the social -economic situation in Berlin neighborhoods.  Tenant participation, the succesful project of a boxing school for underpriviliged children from migrant backgrounds, neighborhood management; all instruments to make the difference.  Sharing knowledge and experiences were central in the discussions thereafter. During the seminar, the Berlin State Secretary Mr Hella Löper Dunger presented the Neighborhood Approach in which residents are fully involved in taking dsecisions within their neighborhood.

The scienctific view was given by Mrs. Prof . Dr. Talja Blokland, professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin and formed Professor at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. 

The second part of the seminar was devoted to the exchange of experiences. Mr Chretien Mommers, director of the Amsterdam Housing Company Eigen Haard (> 40.000 apartments in Amsterdam region), presented the EFL modell for neigborhood analysis, based on the strategy of Eigen Haard itself. The two day seminar was chaired by Mr Joost Nieuwenhuijzen, managing director of EFL. Housing experts from Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden were present.
