The World Urban Forum of UN Habitat took place in February 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. The WUF is the world’s premier conference on urban issues. It was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies.

WUF 9 in KL saw the launch of the Global Home Network. A starting network of individual housing professionals across the world. The GHN has set it’s goal in sharing ideas. The committee is made up of members from South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Canada, Australia and the UK .GHN is driven by the recognition that in 1800 AD, there were one billion people on the planet. Now in 2016 there are seven billion. It’s difficult to overstate the pace and extent of change that has occurred in the recent history of our planet, thanks to population growth, industry and technology. In these times it is incumbent on the not-for-profit housing sector and all key stakeholders to stand up and create a global movement to build on the largely successful intervention of developed national governments to finance and build adequate, affordable, safe and secure housing following WW2. In fact, it is critically important to our own survival to articulate the need and the means to build a supply of housing not just in our own countries but across the globe due to the above factors.More information and composition of GHN: read attached brochure.
