Welcome to New EFL Associate: ETH Zürich

by | Nov 13, 2018

EFL has gained a new associate, ETH Wohnforum – ETH CASE, the Center for Research on Architecture, Society and the Built Environment at ETH Zürich. It is an interdisciplinary research center focused on the design of a livable, living environment and practical solutions for the design of livable cities and affordable, quality housing. The aim of their work is to develop foundations, strategies, and application-oriented solutions to questions of living, in particular the quality and production of living space in urban areas. They position themselves at the interface between academic research, practice, and social mediation. EFL acts similarly. With a network made up of housing associations, universities and research institutes, and private business working in the affordable housing sector, EFL brings together different actors key to communicating about the future of affordable and social housing. ETH will take an active role in EFL topic groups. They are excited to get involved in EFL’s innovative network. Here is what they have to say about joining EFL,

ETH CASE (Centre for Research on Architecture, Society & the Built Environment) is delighted to become part of EFL, which network activities are enriching the discussion on and exchange among housing cooperatives in Europe. We are looking forward to play an active role in knowledge exchange and international project applications and hope to add our academic expertise in Switzerland and a concern for housing and social practices as well as housing policy and housing-related regulation. As a core area of living, housing is subject to the interplay between social and technological transformations. This challenge is at the heart of our activities at the internationally positioned research centre ETH Wohnforum – ETH CASE. Our work focuses on the design of liveable housing environments, relying in the process on our many years of experience in the field of housing research in Switzerland and abroad. The results are practically relevant solution approaches to the design of liveable cities and to the development of high-quality and affordable housing.
